Cinco Peso Star Pendant

Hand-cut by master craftsman Adolfo Ambriz, this Texas star is made from a genuine Mexican cinco peso coin, the same coin used to make authentic Texas Ranger badges. The coin is 90% silver, and the bail is sterling silver. Because of the coin's history, this is the most authentic star we carry.

The history behind the coin: The earliest Texas Rangers had no badges at all. Over time, Rangers began making their own by cutting a five-pointed star into a Mexican silver coin, or having a local jeweler do it. The oldest surviving Ranger badge, worn by Ira Aten in the 1880s, was cut from a Mexican coin. In 1962, Ranger Hardy L. Purvis, honoring his late father, Ranger Captain Hardy B. Purvis, donated enough cinco peso coins for all 62 Rangers serving at the time. Ever since, the official Texas Ranger badge has been cut from a Mexican cinco peso, and earning one remains one of the highest honors in law enforcement.

Made entirely by hand: The star is hand cut, and each letter is hand stamped. No machines are involved in making this piece.

Personalization: $10 per letter, added in or around the star. Each letter is stamped by hand, one at a time, in the old-world style. No engraving machines are ever used.
